【謹賀新年】明けましておめでとうございます

皆様、明けましておめでとうございます。
シリコンバレーは世界のInnovationの中心の座をますます明確にして2011年へと突入しました。

本年も、どうぞよろしくお願いします。

新年ですがお知らせがあります。

来月、横浜国立大学の大学院で、集中講義をすることになりました。
テーマは”Innovation and Technology in Clean Technology from USA and Silicon Valley Perspective"で、1コマ、90分で毎日3コマを月曜から金曜まで合計15コマ講義とディスカッションをします。英語での講義です。最終日には、受講生と教員の方を交えて、懇親会をします。（これは日本語だと思います 笑）

公開講座ではないので外部からの聴講はできないのですが、講義の終わった夕方に関心のある方々と中華街でオフ会をやりたいと考えています。日程と時間はTwitter経由でお知らせする予定です。（@Hiroshi_SV_CA)

2011年は独立して丸10年、そして人生プランを立てて30年になる節目の年です。この節目に学生さんにお話しする機会を与えられたというのは、とてもありがたいことです。
30年前の人生プランを見返すと、重要なポイントは意外と実現しています。たとえば人生プランでは2000年に退職し、コンサルタントになるとなっています。一方思いが及ばなかったことは書いてないのです。外国で仕事をすることは当時は想定外でした。

読み返すと、当時考えてきた時の思いが再びよみがえってきます。若い方々とこのような考えや経験をシェアできれば、私の経験した人生がお役に立つ部分も少なからずあると思っています。講義内容は気合を入れて組み立てつつあります。

今年は、こんなスタートを切っています。皆様と直接お目にかかれる機会も数多くあることを願っております。

昨年の12月にWashington DCで開催されたNanotechnology Innovation Summitで、国防省（DOD)の人が、スペースシャトルの失敗に続く失敗の映像を見せたあと、引用したTeddy Rooseveltの文章がとても印象的だったので引用します。

It is not the critic who counts;

Not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the
doer of deeds could have done better.

The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face
is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs
and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without
error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great
devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause;
who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement,
and who, at the worst, if he falls, at least he falls while daring
greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid
souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.
